Medical Students and the Baltimore Community
Medical students at Hopkins have a long tradition of involvement in the Baltimore community, and a number of opportunities exist for getting involved.
SOURCE Student Governing Board
Students from each of the three health professional schools (Bloomberg School of Public Health, Nursing, and Medicine) serve on SOURCE's Governing Board. Members give vital feedback regarding meetings, activities and events that SOURCE sponsors and co-sponsors. SOURCE's Student Governing Board works to increase the visibility of community engagement and service-learning on the health professional campus.
Service-Based Student Groups
From community outreach to sex education, there are plenty of opportunities to engage with Baltimore alongside fellow students. Check out our list of service-based student groups within the School of Medicine, which receive support from SOURCE and Student Governing Board. SOURCE, MSS and SOURCE Student Governing Board work together to review proposals for new Community Service Student Groups. More more information and to submit a proposal for review, click here.
Donation Drives
SOURCE, in partnership with student groups, hosts five major Tri-School Donation Drives per year to support the needs of SOURCE partnering community-based originations in Baltimore. Collaboration and coordination of donation drives allows for validity and success of these events each year while maximizing our efforts and integrity with the community. Any students, student group or department wishing to organize, coordinate or co-sponsor a donation drive are encouraged to first contact SOURCE at 410-955-3880 or SOURCE@jhu.edu. SOURCE can provide additional support, as well as ensure that drives do not overlap with one another. Those interested in organizing a donation drive can coordinate with SOURCE, and then utilize the MSS Calendar to prevent overlap with another drive.

Academic Opportunities for Community-Based Learning
When combined with preparation and reflection, community service can be a powerful component to academic learning. By responding to community-identified concerns and learning about the context in these issues arise, students are able to fully explore the connection between community involvement and their academic coursework.
