Volunteer Opportunities

BUGS (Baltimore Urban Gardening with Students ) – Urban gardening/ farming/ nutrition  program that runs all year round afterschool, Monday – Friday, 3 pm - 6 pm.

Carmelo Anthony Youth Development Center and POWER House - health workshops; centers also host health fairs & screenings (CCI and other student groups).  2nd-8th Grade from 3 pm - 6 pm and 9th-12th Grades 6 pm - 9 pm.  The centers are also open on weekends. Get involved with health and life skills, sports and recreation, and special summer programs.

Fresh Start - men’s program for nonviolent ex-offenders (students could do academic tutoring).  Program is supervised and staff are on site at all times.  Program uses carpentry to equip men with job skills.  Job preparedness.  40 week long program in partnership with DJS (student-run business, open bank accounts, get GED, need job to graduate, mock interviews).

Project SERVE and Adult Resource Center - programs for men and women who’ve been released from prison; Could have opps when they do workshops for their participants (i.e. best health practices in the home).  SERVE won a city contract to get jobs in the city to prevent gaps in employment for ex-offenders.  Programming for financial literacy.

One-Time Projects – trash pickups, special events, City Springs field and Patterson Park Field and Education Center for health and wellness programming, Farmers Markets with BUGS program, environmental projects for wetlands maintenance and the Chesapeake Bay.
