Federal Work-Study Positions With SOURCE

SOURCE will be hiring several students to support our programs in 2024-2025. All applicants must be eligible for Federal Work-Study, and enrolled full-time at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health or the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing. Eligible applicants should have a FWS Employment Authorization Form (available through the student’s SIS account or Financial Aid Office). Program Assistants are expected to work 6 to 8 hours per week throughout 2024-2025 (ending in May 2025), and to fully participate in SOURCE Student Governing Board committee meeting(s) and activities

Communications Program Assistant

The SOURCE Communications Program Assistant will work directly with the Communications Specialist to support SOURCE marketing, communications, and programmatic outreach to all SOURCE stakeholders through implementation of the center’s annual goals and communications strategy.  

The Communications Program Assistant will provide this support in several key communication elements, such as:  

  • Designing content for social media using Canva and posting/scheduling posts on Instagram, Facebook and X to announce SOURCE program recruitment cycles, promote volunteer requests and elevate other engagement opportunities with partner community-based organizations (CBOs) in Baltimore;  
  • Maintaining weekly social media content calendar in collaboration with Communications Specialist; 
  • Developing and promoting success stories about community partnership and student engagement for social media;  
  • Leading communications with students for recognition in Star of the Month interviews; 
  • Supporting outreach to alumni for highlights in Alumni Newsletters; 
  • Assisting with maintenance of SOURCE Interactive Partner Map website; 
  • Coordinating outreach efforts to partner CBOs to increase number of videos in the Interactive Partner Map and increase utilization of the SOURCE Hopkins Engage platform;  
  • Must participate fully as a member of SOURCE's Student Governing Board, including serving as coordinator for communications with Brand Ambassadors (BA) sub-committee and planning BA meetings.   

Job Qualifications and Required Skills

  • Strong interest in community engagement and outreach strategies  
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills  
  • Must have social media experience (required) 
  • Graphic design and ability to use Canva to create content for social media (required) 
  • Ability to use Instagram, Facebook and X for posting, designing and scheduling content (required) 
  • Video editing is preferred (working in iMovie or similar program) 
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office tools (Teams, Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and willing to learn new applications 
  • Highly organized and confident collaborator across diverse stakeholders and audiences  
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively and work independently 
  • Must be eligible for Federal Work Study in 2024-25 and enrolled full-time in BSPH or SON

Operations Program Assistant

The SOURCE Operations Program Assistant will work directly with the Administrative Coordinator to support SOURCE behind-the-scene operations. Activities will include: 

  • Assisting with maintenance of records regarding SOURCE’s large network of partnering community-based organizations (CBOs) in Baltimore City (including database, team notifications, and other records). 
  • Tracking participation of SOURCE Student Governing Board members 
  • Supporting CBOs in utilizing Hopkins Engage (HE), the university’s online community engagement platform  
  • Assist SOURCE team with HE activities, including setting up sub-groups, tracking and verifying activities, submitting events through the system 
  • Supporting the CBO application process for SOURCE partnership, including tracking and scheduling 
  • Assisting with major SOURCE special events to support the team with logistical needs 

  • Must participate fully as a member of SOURCE's Governing Board.  

Job Qualifications

  • Experience and comfort communicating with diverse populations, including collaborating with community partners 
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others  
  • Manage multiple priorities effectively and possess the ability to work independently 
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office products (i.e. Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, etc.)  
  • Strong technological skills, including ability to learn how to use Hopkins Engage 
  • Basic data analysis skills and Qualtrics skills are a plus

Programs Assistant

The SOURCE Programs Assistant will provide support and guidance for several programmatic initiatives, including SOURCE’s HIV Counseling & Testing Program and service-based student group tracking and activities. The Programs Assistant will assist with the maintenance and follow-up of volunteer schedules; recruit student volunteers;plan, facilitate and evaluate the effectiveness of reflection sessions for student volunteers; andsupport student group leaders connected to SOURCE community engagement activities. Additional program support will be needed for other SOURCE activities and programs throughout the year. 

Job Qualifications

  • Experience in community-based public health
  • Experience and/or interest working with diverse communities
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others while connecting with various student leaders and/or community members
  • Manage multiple priorities effectively and possess the ability to work independently
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office products (i.e. Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, etc.)
  • Background and/or experience managing volunteers
  • Basic data analysis skills and Qualtrics skills are a plus

Description of Duties

  • Assist in recruitment of student volunteers and participants
  • Update student participants about upcoming due dates, assignments, events
  • Track completion of assignments and follow-up with any missing assignments
  • Verify impacts in Hopkins Engage
  • Track student group reporting of service activities
  • Follow up with student group leaders regarding SOURCE opportunities, reporting, and other requirements
  • Assistance with developing Monthly Newsletters for student group leaders

Public Health Practice Program Assistant

SOURCE is seeking a motivated, organized, and detail-oriented Public Health Practice Program Assistant to assist with coordinating aspects of several SOURCE programs, including: the Baltimore Community Practicum courseThe Connection Community Consultants Program, and Baltimore Action Projects

The program assistant will be responsible for reviewing proposals, assisting with student recruitment efforts, processing applications, marketing efforts, discussing short-term projects with community partners, tracking key milestones for student participants, and assisting with project oversight. Seeking candidates who are proficient in Microsoft Office products (particularly Excel) and have experience in public health and/or community-based health preferred. Experience guiding teams and troubleshooting desired. Must be highly organized and detail-oriented.

Service-Learning Research Assistant

SOURCE seeks a Service-Learning Research Assistant who will support elements of our national Service-Learning Academy through outreach, communication strategizing, and data analysis. The SL RA will also review, organize, and analyze information for various SOURCE research projects around community engagement, social justice, and education. This may include literature reviews, data management, and research writing related to service-learning, civic engagement, faculty development, social determinants of health, and other areas to be determined. Skills in qualitative and/or quantitative analysis are a plus.

Social Justice and Reflection Program Assistant

Seeking a student leader who can take on the role of actively fostering social justice orientation for JHU health professional students through reflection-centered programming and events. The SOURCE Social Justice & Reflection Program Assistant (SJ&R) will provide support and guidance to SOURCE's social justice and critical reflection programming, events, social media, and strategic collaboration efforts. While the position is a program assistant position, the role will also involve data tracking, best practice literature reviews in addition to providing support and facilitation for key skills training. Must participate fully as a member of SOURCE's Governing Board, specifically chairing the student Reflection Leaders sub-committee. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office products (i.e. Teams, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.). Experience in service-learning, resource development, and team-based community partnerships is a plus.
