  • Together we will view "Breathing Black" (46 mins.) an original 2022 documentary by Baltimore-based artist Tina Canady.  Breathing Black follows nine Black Baltimoreans as they find joy amidst the global COVID-19 Pandemic and a summer of reckoning with the continued genocide of the Black body after the murders of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor. The documentary has been featured in Baltimore Magazine, the Columbia film festival, the Indianapolis Black documentary film festival, the Detroit Black film festival, and the Baltimore International Black film festival. After the screening, audience members will have an opportunity for a talk back with the producer and several of the documentary’s storytellers.
  • The goal of this event is to activate audience members from across the Schools of Public Health, Nursing, and Medicine by offering a different texture for health professionals to think about healing and practicing deep listening of Black residents’ experiences during Covid. Most importantly, we hope audience members are challenged to (re)consider and reflect on the dynamics of race/racism as a social determinant of health in Baltimore.
