SOURCE Languages Volunteers Program
Can you read, speak, and write in more than one language? Sign Up for SOURCE’s Languages Volunteers Program!
Over the years, SOURCE has received various requests from our partnering community-based organizations for assistance working with clients who speak little or no English. Within our diverse Hopkins family, we have international students, faculty, and staff; who have traveled the world; as well as people who are fluent in many languages.
In order to assist our community partners, we are looking for Hopkins students, faculty, and staff interested in using their language skills to respond to community-identified needs. Types of assistance may include: translating documents, translating during non-medical appointments (such as school orientations), phone assistance, and much more. Volunteers could be asked to be available by phone or computer.
The program does not include any medical interpreting, and does not send volunteers to any private residencies. Over 30 requested languages! Recently requested languages include Malaylam, Tamil, Spanish, Dari, Igbo, and Pashto.
If you would be willing to be called upon for your language skills, please enter your information into our database here: SOURCE Languages Volunteers Database.
While we cannot guarantee that a request will be made, you never know when your language skills may be able to assist someone in need! Questions? Please send an email to SOURCE@jhu.edu.
