One morning of your year can make a world of difference! Sign up for SOURCE’s Fall Tri-School Day of Service, on Sat, Oct 8th and join dozens of other volunteers in the community at partnering SOURCE community-based organizations. Don’t miss out on your chance to give back to the Baltimore community! Projects will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. To sign up, send an email to SOURCE at SOURCE@jhu.edu with your name, email, school affiliation, cell phone number, and top 3 project choices. All participants receive a free t-shirt! All projects begin and end at the School of Public Health’s Monument Street lobby. Times indicated below reflect the times that groups will be asked to meet and return to the School of Public Health.
Sites and project details are as follows:
American Heart Association 8:00am – 1:00pm Support AHA’s premiere event to raise awareness and save lives from heart disease and stroke. Volunteers will assist in interactive stations such as tie-dye, dog agility, cooking demonstrations, kids’ zone and more while some will assist as guide walkers along the route.
Amazing Grace Lutheran Church 8:10am – 12:10pm Help this East Baltimore urban garden get ready for spring and summer while beautifying the landscape outside of Amazing Grace Lutheran Church! Volunteers will help weed, mulch, trim bushes and pick up trash.
Project PLASE 8:20am – 12:30pm Spruce up exterior of a transitional housing center by assisting with general repairs and beautification projects to the exterior of the building and garden area.
Moveable Feast 8:40am – 12:50pm Support individuals affected by HIV/AIDS, cancer and other life-threatening illnesses by prepping meals that will get delivered directly to their homes. Volunteers will help prep, pack, and portion meals in a state-of-the art kitchen.
YO! Baltimore 8:40am – 1:10pm Participate in a center-wide cleaning and organizing event for YO! Baltimore’s clients. Volunteers will assist in organizing and sorting in the professional clothing closet and food pantry. Volunteers will also assist with beautification projects throughout the building and outside. Light lunch will be provided.
Community Lot Team 8:50am – 12:10pm Join a team of volunteers and community members as they continue to work to transition a vacant lot into a community space. Volunteers will participate in activities to maintain a current garden and begin creating additional gardening space in the vacant lot.
Perlman Place Farm 9:00am – 12:10pm Learn about the art of urban farming and assist in various farming activities at this 2-acre farm composed of several vacant city-owned lots. Volunteer tasks may include weeing, watering, harvesting crops, planting, building raised beds, painting planter boxes, picking up trash and other activities.
The Men and Family Center 9:40am – 1:40pm Assist the center in preparing for a successful audit. Volunteers will label and document items throughout the center to ensure an easy process for an upcoming audit. Lots of laughs, a good time and light lunch will be provided.
Baltimore Harm Reduction Coalition REGISTRATION FULL Learn about naloxone and overdose education by joining this group. Volunteers will assemble kits and application folder for the Overdose Education and Naloxone Distribution program. Light lunch will be provided.
