SOURCE Students of Service (SOS) Mentor Program

In partnership with Mi Espacio and funding from Maryland/DC Campus Compact and AmeriCorps

SOURCE is excited to announce the SOURCE Students of Service (SOS) Mentorship Program in partnership with Mi Espacio.  SOS is a unique opportunity for students to make a long-term (8-10 months) commitment to a mentoring program through Mi Espacio while receiving a $1,175 educational award.  SOS Mentors will receive guidance and mentorship from SOURCE staff throughout the year while also engaging in a rewarding mentor experience with at-risk students in Baltimore City. This opportunity is open to any student enrolled in the Schools of Medicine, Nursing and Public Health during the 2012-2013 academic year, with an interest in long-term service and community-based professional development. Because funds come from AmeriCorps, applicants MUST be a US Citizen, Permanent Resident or Naturalized Citizen of the U.S. to be eligible for this program.

Mi Espacio is an after school teen pregnancy prevention program sponsored by the Baltimore City Health Department. The program offers a holistic model of pregnancy prevention by offering educational workshops, sex-ed, after school homework help, art, zumba, yoga, dance, and other personal enrichment courses. The program works with both middle and high school students – particularly Latino youth – from various local schools and communities in the city.   SOS mentors will engage with youth at Mi Espacio in a mentoring capacity on a weekly basis.  Mi Espacio is located on Caroline St, just a short walk from the JHU medical campus.

SOURCE is now accepting applications for the SOS Mentor cohort beginning the 2012-13 academic year!  Applications are due by Friday, September 14th at 5:00pm (submission information is found at the end of the application).
