SOURCE

SOURCE is the community engagement and service-learning center for the Johns Hopkins University (JHU) Schools of Public Health, Nursing, and Medicine.

SOURCE’s mission is to engage the Johns Hopkins University health professional schools and Baltimore communities in mutually beneficial partnerships that promote health and social justice.

We also serve as a channel for student, faculty and staff involvement with community organizations, and local projects.

SOURCE has a particular, but not exclusive, focus on East Baltimore neighborhoods in close proximity to the Johns Hopkins Medical Campus.

Nominations now open for 2023-24 SOURCE Community Service Awards

As a part of National Volunteer Week held annually in April, SOURCE presents awards to individuals and student groups that have shown a strong commitment to community engagement, service-learning and public health practice. SOURCE Community Service Awards are given for outstanding service and exemplary partnership with community-based organizations within several categories. Nominations are being accepted until March 19.

SOURCE seeking volunteers for "Facing (In)Justice in Health in Baltimore"

In partnership with Transform MidAtlantic and The Facing Project, SOURCE is gathering stories on "Facing (In)Justice in Health in Baltimore". This storytelling collaboration will support emerging stories that highlight the context and challenges of health equity in our city. Volunteer storytellers and writers are needed between March and June 2024. Open to current students, staff, or faculty in BSPH, SON and SOM, as well as staff from partner CBOs.

Now accepting applications for 2024-25 SOURCE Service Scholars program

Are you looking for a way to make meaningful change in your community while completing your studies? SOURCE Service Scholars presents a unique opportunity for students to make an impact by completing 150 hours of community-based practice at a Baltimore community-based organization that is a SOURCE partner. Join our online Info Session on March 26. Applications are open until April 7. Open to students in BSPH, SON and SOM (M.D. students only) who will be enrolled throughout 2024-2025.

Congratulations to our Star of the Month, Michelle Galat from the School of Nursing! For the past year, Michelle has been volunteering with our amazing partners at Lori's Hands and, as a SOURCE Service Scholar, is also involved in their "Client Storytelling Project".
