SOURCE is the community engagement and service-learning center for the Johns Hopkins University (JHU) Schools of Public Health, Nursing, and Medicine.

SOURCE’s mission is to engage the Johns Hopkins University health professional schools and Baltimore communities in mutually beneficial partnerships that promote health and social justice.

We also serve as a channel for student, faculty and staff involvement with community organizations, and local projects.

SOURCE has a particular, but not exclusive, focus on East Baltimore neighborhoods in close proximity to the Johns Hopkins Medical Campus.

National Volunteer Appreciation Event Series starts in April

SOURCE hosts National Volunteer Appreciation Event Series to highlight and celebrate the incredible service being done in our communities throughout the academic year by students, faculty and staff in partnership with Baltimore community-based organizations. Various activities are planned to wrap up the 2023-24 year, including our Toiletries Donation Drive and Spring Tri-School Day of Service. Registrations open for Spring Tri-School Day of Service on April 20

Join dozens of other volunteers from the JHU health professional schools and serve our community with one of our SOURCE partner community-based organizations. One morning of volunteer service can truly make a world of difference! Several projects are available to choose from and registrations are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Open to students, faculty, staff and alumni from BSPH, JHSON and JHSOM.

Toiletries Donation Drive until April 19 at School of Nursing

Donate new and unopened toiletries for Baltimore families! SOURCE is collecting soap, shampoo, deodorant, shaving cream, razors, Q-tips, lotions, sanitary products, toothpaste and mouthwash to be donated to families through SOURCE partnering community-based organizations. Drop-off boxed located in SON Lobby until April 19. The donation drive will continue at BSPH and SOM from April 22 - May 3.

Complete our Annual Community Engagement Survey by May 10

SOURCE is surveying students and postdocs from the JHU Schools of Public Health, Nursing, and Medicine in order to determine students’ perceptions of community engagement and its place in the curriculum, qualify students’ perceived benefits and barriers to community engagement, and help refine future programming from SOURCE. Responses are anonymous. You will have an opportunity to enter a drawing for a chance to win a SWAG BAG if you respond by Fri, May 10.

Now accepting SSS Project Proposals from partner CBOs for 2024-25

SOURCE is now accepting Project Proposals from partner CBOs for the 2024-25 SOURCE Service Scholars program. SSS is a unique opportunity for partnering CBOs to engage JHU health professional students in long-term (academic year) commitments. SOURCE works with CBOs to identify and refine projects and make connections to students who express interest in a long-term, regular commitment. Submission deadline is Sun, May 12. Questions? Star of the Month | March 2024

Congratulations to our Star of the Month for March 2024, Ayush Kumar from the Bloomberg School of Public Health! Ayush has been active in our community all year through various programs, serving as HIV Counselor and Tester at Harriet Lane Clinic, and collaborating on a Baltimore Action Project with The Pride Center of Maryland.
